WordPress Security is Essential

I put that big and bold because it’s so important. Yes, essential.

Because even if you aren’t a ‘big fish’ in the website world, your blog can be vulnerable.

Troublemakers who want to mess with blogs aren’t always after snagging free ebooks or the joy of ruining a big fish’s gig. They just want to see what they can F with.

I have had 2 attack attempts on this blog at least. I wouldn’t have known about them had I not installed a special plugin. I learned about that plugin  from the WordPress security tips guide I recommend in this post.

The book is a new offering and the timing is good because attacks are becoming more and more of a problem online.

Some of the fixes it recommends are not ones that you know about most likely. You need to know about them.

The author, John Hoff of WP Blog Host made it his mission to learn everything about WordPress security after his wife’s blog was hacked and destroyed.

John is a great guy. I’ve learned a lot about WordPress from him because he explains things so clearly. His video tutorials are excellent.

He created this ebook and video package to teach other people how to prevent what happened to his wife from happening to them.

WordPress Defender: 30 Ways to Secure Your Blog from Attack Anyone Can Do

I fixed several things on my blogs to tighten up security by following the how-tos. If I needed clarification, I watched one of the 14 videos in the package, pausing it and copying exactly what John recommended step by step to make sure that I did everything correctly.

Please add this to your WordPress resources. If you follow the recommendations, which are simple and quick to do, you’ll make it a lot harder for hackers to have fun with your site.

    Hi Lillea
I’ve already bought John’s ebook and would advise anyone with a wordpress site to buy a copy.
John has a very relaxed style and he is able to explain complex procedures in a way that anyone can understand.
John will also answer queries on his blog, definately one of the good guys.

  2. Hi Keith,

You summed it up so well! There are so many things that were at one time confusing to me, and John made
them so clear. I’m really glad that I found his site and also bought the book, and that you appreciate him/it
    too.

    Hi Lillea
I found John’s blog some time ago and had already installed some of the security plugins he mentions before I bought his ebook.
He has also given me free advice by email… he deserves to do well with this ebook.

  4. Hi again Keith,

That’s great. :) I had a few of the things installed before I bought the book too. I added what I was missing and
didn’t know about until I read it. I like how he will often give the non-plugin way of doing things.

I think that I first found out about him when I was trying to get Google Analytics working on my site. The plugin I was
using suddenly stopped working – a known conflict that couldn’t be fixed. John has a video that makes it very clear how to put
the code in manually. Other blogs covering the same topic didn’t do as good a job as he did describing it.

I hope he does really well with the book too.

  6. John is one of the best guys online for sure. I appreciate his humor too.

The security measures he teaches in this book have helped me thwart 3 attacks on one of my
    blogs! Wow.
