I switched to a Mac recently after using PCs for many years.

PC-to-mac

Before the switch, I checked the internet marketing and design programs on my PC to see if they were Mac compatible or had Mac equivalents.

With the ones that weren’t going to work in the Mac OS, I discovered that I could run them by putting Windows on the Mac with  Parallels Desktop 5.0 . This has worked quite well.

However, ideally programs are Mac compatible.

Popular Internet Marketing Software that Also Runs on Macs

1. Almost everything that is WordPress related (like plugins) will work on Macs because the software is usually uploaded to your site, not run from your computer. To learn how to use WordPress for marketing see:  Wordpress-for-Internet-Marketers-Review

2. Market Samurai - fantastic keyword tool that gets better and better almost weekly

3. Skype - allows you to call your clients and cronies computer-to-computer for free, or for very low rates to phones.

4. Audacity - free audio editing and recording software to create podcasts, Mp3s, CDs and more. If you want a good microphone, my favorite USB microphone will work on Macs. See Best-Usb-Microphone

4. Mozilla FireFox is my favorite browser with GREAT add-ons for internet marketers.

See: Best-Browser-and-7-Simple-Add-Ons

5. FileZilla is nice, free FTP software for uploading and managing files on websites

6. RoboForm – doesn’t run on the Mac computers, but it DOES run on iPhone or IPod Touch so that’s handy. This program securely automates online password entering and form filling. No need to remember your passwords again! If you have several websites/blogs, belong to forums, or do anything that requires a password online and you want security, this is super.

7. GetResponse - my autoresponder. Like most autoresponder services, it’s managed online so there is need to download anything. Read Best-Autoresponder-Review

8. Camtasia Studio - the Mac version was released recently for a great price. It’s cheaper than the PC version! This is popular screen recording software that is often used for software tutorials.

9. VLC player - great multi- media player that allows you to play many different file types. Great on both PCs and Macs!

For Ftp, you should check out Transmit (www.panic.com). And instead of Camtasia, check out ScreenFlow (it’s awesome).

Also, instead of RoboForm, check out 1password.

In general, I’ve found Mac software to be so much better than Windows software.

  2. Thank you! That’s fantastic that there are better options. I hope to get more suggestions like this. I don’t have a Mac yet, but soon hopefully. I’ll likely keep my PC laptop as well but Macs do seem to be far superior.

  3. Very useful post. No questions that professional internet marketing will apreciate this information and thank you for making this share.

  4. You’re welcome Andrew. It will be interesting to see if, as with people in design and education, internet marketers gravitate toward Macs.

Many of my friends are switching to Macs for personal use. Marketing services seem to be equivalent. What about seo services? Can you as easily use things like SEM Rush and SEO Quake?

  6. Hi Karolinna,

    Yes, if you install Parallels
and a version of Windows on the Mac to run Windows programs like SEO Quake, that can work well. I know people
who are running SEO Quake that way. But it’s wise to confirm with the program vendor and also other Mac users
who are marketers to make sure that such programs will run smoothly. Sometimes they will run but they will be
    slow.

I successfully installed a number of marketing programs with Parallels and Windows XP Pro so I can access them alongside the Mac apps.
So far they are working fine.

I’m planning of switching to Mac soon. Thankfully I found your article thanks for sharing.

  8. You’re welcome Kim. They are great machines. :)

  9. Bill Wynne says:

Awesome list of tools. Never heard of Market Samurai.
Roboform sure will be helpful on my Iphone.

    Liked your Twitter photo as well (;

    Bill

  10. Thank you Bill! I like your Twitter picture too. It’s great to see
    something artistic like that. :)

Market Samurai is definitely worth looking at. I keep wondering when they’ll jack
up the price because they could easily charge double or more for what it includes.
I got a slightly better price on it than what it costs now, but not by much.

Also, I found out that anyone who downloads the free trial can use the basic keyword
research module for free forever. They only have to pay if they want to access
the other features. The guys who created it are great – very generous.

    Lillea
